When Hurricane Irma was predicted to come through town, I checked all 250+ of my paintings into a storage facility, and my husband, our dog, and I drove up to Tallahassee to stay with an old teacher of mine. I had brought a painting with me that needed my teacher's help. Upon looking, he could see how I was struggling with techniques not taught in art school. He suggested I take classes at the Southern Atelier in Sarasota. I enrolled as soon as I got back home. 

 

An Atelier is a workshop where art students receive classical training, following footsteps of art giants like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. I was 'unclassically trained' in college, so I'm forever grateful for finding an atelier to take my skills to the next level.

I spent hours learning anatomy, drawing live models, painting master copies, cast drawing and learning all about classical mediums. Being at the atelier is like being transported to Italy in the 1500's.
