This painting was created from many trips to my beach to study colors, feelings and composition. I love the way I feel while swimming in the warm Gulf of Mexico and wanted to convey it on multiple levels, which is ultimately why the sky opens up-to convey the awe of being immersed. I was inspired by a Japanese print for the composition of the crashing wave. I called it surrender because there were many moments where I felt unequipped to create the magic I had in my heart but I kept showing up and eventually found a stopping place that I felt happy with.
